Marcia Grand Retires From TWICE

NEW YORK, NY (March 4, 2013) — NewBay Media has announced that Marcia Grand is retiring as VP/Publisher of TWICE, the brand she helped start more than 27 years ago. Grand will remain with NewBay Media through the end of April in order to help the transition to new VP/Publisher Ed Hecht, who is joining NewBay and takes over TWICE management effective immediately.

Music Week Awards 2013: The winners

Island Records took two gongs – one for A&R and another for best record company – while 4AD picked up the award for Independent Record Company.

Adrian Sykes and Greg Castell shared the Manager Of The Year award and SJM Concerts’ Simon Moran took the Live Promoter gong.

The biggest award of the night, The Strat, went to Richard Griffiths and Harry Magee of Modest! Management. Simon Cowell made an appearance to present the pair with the prize.

MCV Pacific Awards 2013 confirmed

The Awards, open to both Australia and New Zealand, will focus on retail, distribution, trade, publishing, PR and marketing. (Development will be honoured in a separate intiative to be announced).

Samsung, Entatech and Micro-P shine at PCR Awards

The PCR Awards 2013, which took place last night at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, were all about championing the hard work of the technology channel over the last 12 months.

Comedian Terry Alderton hosted the night and gave out 19 Awards over three categories and two special awards. Notably, Samsung won Computing Vendor and also took the Grand Prix award.

There were double winners in Distribution, too, with Entatech winning Software Distributor and Marketing & PR, while Micro-P collected Consumer Electronics Distributor and the Distributor of the Year prize.

Computer 2000’s Andy Dow won the Special Recognition Award, run for the first time this year, which saw finalists nominated and voted for entirely by PCR’s Retail Advisory Panel.

New awards launch applauds pro audio industry

The Pro Sound Awards is jointly-backed by leading pro audio business titles Audio Pro International, PSNEurope, Installation, and Audio Media, and supported by MI Pro and Music Week.

Sennheiser and Digico have already demonstrated support for the Awards by signing up as headline sponsors.

ToyNews website traffic soars at Toy Fair

ToyNews drew tens of thousands of visitors to its website during Toy Fair 2013, thanks to its unmatched coverage of the big London event this week.

With 44 stories being posted by the ToyNew teams during the three-day event (plus more before and after the show), the site generated 65,156 page views from Friday January 18th to Friday January 25th.

MCV Awards 2013 finalists unveiled

Ubisoft leads the way with 12 nominations, followed by ten for EA, nine for Warner and eight a piece for Activision and Xbox. 

But the heavyweights are competing head-to-head with nimbler firms such as Sega and Bethesda (eight nominations each), 2K (seven) and NCsoft (four). 

Game Retail also scores four nominations. 

We’re also today announcing some category updates to reflect the activity of games publishers large and small over the last 12 months.

Digital Campaign champions broader online efforts versus targeted events or stunts in Audience Engagement. 

A new Specialist Game Publisher award honours smaller outfits that serve a niche better than the mainstream gang. 

Meanwhile, splitting Independent Retail into online and High Street reflects the sector’s variety.

NewBay Media acquires Intent Media Limited

NEW YORK, NY (December 5, 2012) — NewBay Media LLC (“NewBay”) announced today that it has acquired Intent Media Limited (“Intent”).

Intent, based in the U.K., produces business publications, websites and events within the entertainment, technology and leisure markets. Its brands include Pro Sound News Europe, TVB Europe, Installation, MCV, and ToyNews among many others.

ME Awards 2012 winners announced

Last night saw London’s Royal Garden Hotel welcome the mobile industry’s finest, as over 300 senior professionals from across the globe turned out for the seventh annual ME Awards.

Among those recognised for their achievements over the past 12 months were O2 UK, who picked up the award for Best Operator, while Samsung received the Best Device Manufacturer gong, having seen its Galaxy S III enjoy huge success this year.

Meanwhile, Mubaloo won the Best Enterprise App Developer award following a hugely successful 12 months.

Elsewhere, OpenMarket and Qualcomm celebrated a successful night, having scooped awards for Best Customer Service and Best Augmented Reality Company respectively.

The winners were decided by a judging panel, drawn from the ME contacts book and consisting of around 400 execs from all sectors of the business.
