NDIcentral Launches at IBC

NEW YORK, NY (September 8, 2016) – NewBay, publisher of TV Technology (TVT) and Creative Planet Network (CPN), has announced the launch of NDIcentral, a live social media hub designed to educate and inform the industry about NDI™, the Network Device Interface standard from NewTek. NewBay has partnered with NewTek on the hub, which goes live today, as the industry awaits the latest news from the IBC Conference in Amsterdam.

NDI is an open standard for video over IP that allows any NDI-enabled device on the network such as production switchers, graphics generators, capture systems, and media services to see and access content for live production. NDI is poised to have a big impact on the industry, and NDIcentral provides a valuable resource for NDI partners and users, who can also participate in the hub by adding the hashtag #NDIcentral to their social media posts.

At NDIcentral, TVT and CPN editors are curating a real-time feed of social media posts about NDI, including opinions from media & entertainment industry thought leaders, articles from TVT and CPN editors, and posts from NewTek and other companies. NDIcentral is being promoted exclusively on TVTechnology.com, Creativeplanetnetwork.com, and via NewTek’s worldwide marketing operation.

NDIcentral (www.tvtechnology.com/NDIcentral) can be found on tvtechnology.com and creativeplanet.com, as well as NewTek’s corporate website. Companies that support NDI also have the opportunity to sponsor the hub and have its valuable content on their own websites. Companies who want to sponsor the NDIcentral can contact TVT and CPN VP/Group Publisher Eric Trabb at etrabb@nbmedia.com.

“NewTek came to us looking for a publishing platform that would leverage our existing content on NDI as well as include posts and other industry information on the standard,” says Trabb. “Using a new social media curation technology, TVT and CPN were able to create a real-time industry-wide publishing platform that can reside on our sites as well as the websites of NewTek and other companies that support NDI.”

“NewTek NDI is an open standard anyone can implement to connect video equipment across a network,” says Donetta Colboch, VP of Marketing for NewTek Inc. “We’re very excited to be working with TV Technology and the Creative Planet Network on this truly innovative social media hub that can pull in all the best opinion, tutorial, and best-practice information available on NDI in a social media platform that can reside on a wide number of sites across the media and entertainment industry.”

At launch, Vdeo-iQ boasts a database of nearly 100,000 products from more than 300 manufacturers — and these numbers continue to grow. Launch sponsors include Sony, Snell Advanced Media, AJA Video Systems, Exterity, Grass Valley, and Zylight.

Vdeo-iQ offers something for everyone in the video, broadcast, and entertainment industries. Members of Vdeo-iQ will be able to take advantage of the product data comparison tool and check out the case studies library for cutting-edge video and broadcast inspiration. Manufacturers will be able to reach industry buyers at a crucial time — as they are spec’ing out a project or researching the latest gear prior to purchase.

“Just as AV-iQ did for the pro AV market, Vdeo-iQ provides the video, broadcast, and entertainment with a resource that allows for quick and efficient product spec’ing, while also giving gear and service providers a means to provide vital information to those who need it most,” states Mark Loftus, Operations Manager, Vdeo-iQ. “We are here to provide a crucial information link between the providers and the buyers.”

Participating manufacturers agree that the AV-iQ service, now joined by Vdeo-iQ, provides a valuable resource for reaching buyers:

“Sony has been a part of the AV-iQ website for many years and we’re excited to see that NewBay is expanding this platform to serve the broadcast market,” says Patricia Melendez, Director, Communications & Marketing/Sales Operations, Sony. “Having a comprehensive portal for detailed product research creates efficiencies that help the entire industry.”

“The AV-iQ model has been a great supplement to our marketing efforts, giving us another avenue to communicate to a broad audience of end users and resellers,” says John Shike, Vice President Business Development, Americas, Snell Advanced Media. “Having a resource that provides all of the latest in broadcast technology is a great addition to the industry.”

For manufacturers, the process of adding products to the site is easy and is free. Simply contact productsupport@vdeo-iq.com and instructions will be provided.

Sponsorships are available to gain additional product and branding exposure on Vdeo-iQ.com. Sponsors get the benefit of increased visibility in Vdeo-iQ’s featured products sections, and get first-in-mind presence on related gear searches. Additionally, sponsors can gain additional coverage through Vdeo-iQ’s product update newsletters.

“If you are a manufacturer and your products are not listed on Vdeo-iQ, you are missing out on hundreds of potential sales,” adds Loftus. “There is no charge to add products, so there is no reason not to see all the benefits that Vdeo-iQ can bring to your company’s sales and marketing mix.”

By visiting a site that has hundreds of manufacturers’ products and marketing material on it, a user can come to one website to find everything he or she needs. A search on Vdeo-iQ quickly provides all of the relevant information in one location. A user can search the list of companies, find results using a keyword search term, or browse through the comprehensive list of broadcast and video product categories.

With all the information at the buyers’ fingertips, they can then choose products to view in a side-by-side comparison tool or place them into project lists. Free registered users of the site can have an account where they can save those projects and add to them later, share them with colleagues or clients, and set a customized list of preferences to make their research as efficient as possible.

AV-iQ Creates Custom Online Catalog for AVI-SPL

NEW YORK, NY (April 5, 2016) — AV-iQ, the largest, most comprehensive database of AV product information ever assembled, teamed up with AVI-SPL, the world’s leading AV systems integration provider, to create a custom version of the AV-iQ database that that was integrated into the newly launched AVISPL.com website. This collaboration has made it easier for AVI-SPL to maintain up-to-date information on the vast array of AV products they offer.

AV-iQ, produced by NewBay, provides the most robust database of product information in the Pro AV industry. Visitors to AV-iQ.com can select from nearly a half-million products from over 2000 brands to research the latest product information the industry has to offer. With a deep, rich set of data, professional end users can find the products they need for their current AV projects and contact either the manufacturer directly or find a local provider to supply products and integration.

This one-stop resource is customizable in order to offer resellers and integrators the opportunity to build their very own catalog of brands and products they represent. Recently AV-iQ created such a resource for AVI-SPL and integrated it into their brand new website. With all the research capabilities needed for end users to find and compare products, they can then request a quote on a single product or create and save project lists and submit quote requests to AVI-SPL on all the products they need.

All AVI-SPL needs to do in order to maintain this database is tell AV-iQ which line of products they’d like to display inside their customized AV-iQ catalog. Updates made in the AV-iQ database dynamically update AVI-SPL’s AV-iQ catalog, and users can research and submit quote requests, as well as create project lists to send to AVI-SPL to request project quotes.

”AV-iQ was highly-responsive to our needs, allowing us to positively impact the customer experience and match AVI-SPL processes,” says AVI-SPL’s Senior VP of Marketing, Kelly Bousman. “Partnering with AV-iQ and utilizing its custom catalog on our newly-designed website has created a huge benefit for our new website’s visitors.”

“AVI-SPL is the perfect partner to showcase AV-iQ’s exceptional custom capabilities,” states Mark Loftus, operations manager for AV-iQ. “A centralized industry database for all resellers to pull from and offer to their clients is a time and money saver for integrators and the end user community alike. The more we can streamline the delivery of product information — including pricing — to the channel, the better off the industry is as a whole.”

Over 650,000 visitors came to an AV-iQ resource in 2015 to do product research and find local resellers or service providers. More than 2.5 million pages were viewed, making this a proven location for the industry to find what they need in order to succeed in their businesses.

Entitled The Importance of Creating Original Content for Today’s Hispanic Audiences, the session will look at why original content is critical for the Hispanic media market as audience tastes change in today’s cross-cultural environment from traditional telenovela formats to faster paced super series, the evolution of live music and sports events, as well as the trans-adaptation of popular general market reality series for Spanish speaking audiences.

Luis Silberwasser was named President of Telemundo in August 2014. He has overall responsibility for the Telemundo broadcast network, including Telemundo Studios, the leading producer of original Spanish-language primetime content for U.S. Hispanics. Working closely with NBCUniversal’s Hispanic Group senior team and Telemundo’s leadership, Silberwasser is responsible for developing and executing the Spanish-language network’s entertainment, sports and news growth strategy. Prior to joining Telemundo, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer for Discovery Networks International.

María Celeste Arrarás, an Emmy® award-winning journalist and investigative reporter, is one of the most popular Spanish-language television news personalities. She has been a guest host for NBC’s “Today” show and has collaborated with “Dateline” and “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.” She is a past recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Hispanic Television presented to her at the third annual Hispanic Television Summit.

The Hispanic Television Summit is the premier event for those in the business of television for Hispanic audiences and covers programming, advertising, online distribution technology and this year will especially feature the genre of telenovelas. Over 500 executives attend from the U.S., Latin America, Europe and other territories, representing broadcasters, pay TV providers, over-the-top digital providers, programming networks, production companies, advertisers, ad agencies, technology suppliers, research firms, investors and more.

The Summit includes the presentation of the Leadership in Hispanic Television Award as well as the Award for Achievement in Hispanic Television. This year’s award goes to Verizon. Nathan East, Lemmy Kilmister, Ben Kenney & Louis Johnson Tribute Headline Bass Player Live! 2015

SAN BRUNO, CA (September 17, 2015) — Bass Player Magazine returns for its eighth year in Los Angeles with the premier live bass guitar event, Bass Player LIVE! 2015, on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8. SIR Studios, at 6465 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, will once again be the location for two days of exhibits by top gear manufacturers and clinics by world-class bassists. An All-Star Concert featuring this year’s award recipients will be held on the evening of November 7 at Musicians Institute, 6752 Hollywood Blvd.

Highlights of this much-anticipated bass bash include:

*A Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award presented to session legend Nathan East, who will accept his award and perform with his band at the All-Star Concert on November 7, and host a clinic at SIR on November 8. Following 35 years as a first-call Los Angeles studio ace, recording with everyone from Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie and Phil Collins to Eric Clapton, Fourplay and Daft Punk, Nathan at last made his solo debut in 2014 with his chart-topping, self-titled album on the Yamaha Artist Group label. His follow-up, The New Cool, with Bob James, was just released.

*A Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Motörhead bass icon Lemmy Kilmister, who will accept his award at the All-Star Concert on November 7. Lemmy and Motörhead are celebrating 40 years of the world’s biggest and baddest rock & roll band of all time in 2015, and just released their 22nd studio album, Bad Magic (UDR Music/Motörhead Music).

*A posthumous Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award presented to the family of the late Louis Johnson at the All-Star Concert, followed by a tribute set featuring Louis’s bass peers; plus a tribute clinic hosted by Brothers Johnson guitarist George Johnson at SIR on Nov. 8. Passing in 2015 at age 60, Louis “Thunder Thumbs” Johnson forged a landmark career that found him furthering the art of bass playing (and slapping in particular) both as a member of the Brothers Johnson (“Stomp,” “Strawberry Letter #23”) and as a top session bassist with Michael Jackson (Off the Wall, Thriller), Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney and many more.

*Clinic appearances by Duran Duran’s John Taylor and Ben Kenney of Incubus.

*A special clinic presentation by session legend Chuck Rainey, joined by fellow studio greats James Gadson on drums and Larry Nash on keyboards.

*A probing pedal and effects clinic by The Mars Volta bassist and author of BP’s “Tonal Vision” column, Juan Alderete.

*A throwdown clinic by gospel bass master Andrew Gouche and his band in support of his new album, We Don’t Need No Bass.

*Bass and vocal phenomenon Tal Wilkenfeld (Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock)–who received the Bass Player LIVE! “Young Gun” award in 2013–in her first BP LIVE! clinic since 2009.

*TV’s “face of bass,” award-winning producer, and former American Idol and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno bandleader Rickey Minor will hold his annual clinic.

* The Bass Player LIVE! debut of virtuoso bassist/producer and Rope A Dope recording artist Bill Dickens, who will present a clinic in support of his new album Tha Truth.

Also slated this year is the return of Mike Merritt’s TV Bass Roundtable with The Late Late Show’s Hagar Ben Ari making her BP LIVE! debut; an All-Star rock roundtable clinic with dUg Pinnick and Blasko; and artist appearances by Verdine White, Stu Hamm, “Ready” Freddie Washington, Oskar Cartaya, Rhonda Smith, Janek Gwizdala, Jerry Jemmott, Bryant Siono, Jimmy Earl, Phil Chen, Bobby Vega, Sean Hurley, Steve Jenkins, Bunny Brunel, Rufus Philpot, Byron Miller, Scott Reeder, Tony Franklin, Marty O’Brien  and more.
