“For me, after 15 years, it’s simply time to hand over the baton. I will always love Intent Media, but now is a good time for me to explore new interests outside the company”.

The company is actively recruiting a new Managing Director to lead Intent Media and NewBay Europe.

To support the company’s continued growth, the following appointments have been announced today – Michael French will take over Dinsey’s role of Publisher for the games division, which includes brands such as MCV, MCV Pacific, MCV India, Develop, Games Media Awards and The London Games Conference. Multi-Billionaire/Philanthropist Paul Allen Discusses His Love for the Guitar in an Exclusive, Candid Interview with Guitar Aficionado Magazine

New York — Paul Allen may be known best as the cofounder of Microsoft and for his current philanthropic efforts, but in an exclusive interview in the September/October 2013 issue of Guitar Aficionado magazine, the multi-billionaire reveals his musical aspirations and passion for the guitar. In addition to discussing the major-label debut album from his group Paul Allen and the Underthinkers, Everywhere at Once, Allen talks about his impressive guitar collection, which includes iconic, historically important instruments previously owned by Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.

“There is a similarity between collecting guitars and collecting art,” Allen says in the interview. “You shouldn’t buy a guitar or a painting that doesn’t speak to you in some way. With a lot of art, you can see it for the hundredth or thousandth time and it still speaks to you. It’s the same thing with a guitar that you like to play.”

Although the majority of Allen’s most impressive guitar acquisitions are on display at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, the landmark rock and roll/pop culture museum that he launched in 2000, he also owns a variety of guitars for personal use with his band, many of which were gifts from rock and roll royalty, including Bono, Peter Gabriel, George Harrison, and Carlos Santana. In the interview, Allen talks candidly about the recording projects and jam sessions he has enjoyed with many of his famous friends, revealing a rock and rock heart beneath his entrepreneur/investor public persona.

“In high school, two things were central to my interest,” Allen says. “One was programming, which I got completely hooked on. The other was guitar playing. I’ve been fortunate in my life to play with some of the greatest guitarists and rock and roll musicians ever. It was an amazing thrill to have some of them play on the album.”

With an estimated net worth of $15 billion, which has earned him the No. 20 spot on the current Forbes 400 Richest People in America list, Allen is by far the wealthiest guitar collector to appear in the pages of Guitar Aficionado magazine. The exclusive interview sheds new light on the motivations that drive and inspire one of America’s most fascinating yet private billionaires.

The September/October 2013 issue of Guitar Aficionado magazine will be available on newsstands beginning August 6, 2013, for $7.99. For more information, please visit guitaraficionado.com

Licensing.biz unveils new website

Licensing.biz has overhauled its web presence, with new features and a focus on a user experience optimised across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

In short, the new Licensing.biz website has been built to give you all the content you already love, packaged in a form conducive to our multi-device, socially-networked age.

It’s all part of our goal to keep Licensing.biz as the number one information source for the licensing industry across as many channels as possible, encompassing online, email, mobile, apps and social networks.

The most obvious change to the site is the look and feel, which we believe offers readers a cleaner and more engaging browsing experience – we’ve taken away the clutter, allowing you to get to what you want, quickly and easily.

Crucially, the site has been developed using a technique called ‘responsive’ design, which means it will adapt itself automatically depending on the device the reader is accessing it from – be that desktop, tablet or mobile phone.

The Carousel and Homestream are now the focal points, allowing you to immediately see the most important stories of the day and then scroll down the page to view everything else that happening in and around the licensing industry.

But the charges aren’t just cosmetic – we’ve worked hard to build community and industry resources into the new Licensing.biz site, including:

– Full jobs board functionality, enabling you to post your vacancies and have them seen by the entire licensing industry.
– Comprehensive industry events listings, so you never miss a conference or exhibition.
– The ability to comment on articles, engaging with our specialist team and fellow industry professionals.

We’ve also revamped our email services, which include the Daily Digest news round up and Newsflash alerts.

You can also follow Licensing.biz on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and RSS.

And don’t forget, on top of all that you can also download the Licensing.biz iPhone app (iTunes link).

“The world of publishing has changed, and Licensing.biz has changed with it,” said Licensing.biz publisher Lisa Carter. “The website has been providing the licensing industry with up to the minute news for some time and with the new design we are taking things to the next level. Watch out for more announcements from us soon as we expand our digital presence.”

To find out how Licensing.biz can support your business across its print, digital, online, apps and email channels, contact Jodie.Holdway@intentmedia.co.uk, or call her on +44 (0) 1992 535 647.

Licensing.biz launches Power List

Intent Media today launches the Licensing.biz Power List, a new print magazine which will celebrate the top licensed properties of the year.

Published in association with miEvents, the glossy book will be launched at the Brand Licensing Europe event at Olympia on October 15th, where Licensing.biz and miEvents (which is a division of the miPR Group) will also host a party to celebrate the Power List.

Licensing.biz will survey 200 executives from all areas of the licensing business (including brand owners, licensees, retailers, licensing agents, media and events firms), asking them to choose their top properties from the character and entertainment, brands, sports and art and design sectors. They will be asked to take into account criteria including commercial impact, creativity, innovation, longevity and retail presence.

The Licensing.biz Power List will also be inserted in the November issue of ToyNews, and the corresponding issues of weekly sister titles MCV and Music Week.

The launch of the new annual publication comes as Licensing.biz celebrates its fifth anniversary, with a new-look site due to launch imminently.

Lisa Carter, publisher of Licensing.biz, said: “We’re excited to be launching the first print publication under the Licensing.biz moniker. The past 12 months have been a great time for the licensing industry, with established and new brands reaching ever increasing audiences.

“The Power List will aim to promote these licences further as the standard bearers in this fast-moving and exciting sector.”

Kirsty Barr, MD of miPR and miEvents added: “Congratulations on five years of Licensing.biz. It’s an honour for miEvents to be the Headline Sponsor of the inaugural Power List book and Party in October. Licensing continues to grow year on year and it is only fitting that we acknowledge and commend the brands, individuals and categories which demonstrate innovation, creativity and passion within this great industry. We look forward to working with Intent Media on the Power List and Party over the coming months.”
